Bologna Art First

Bologna Art First

Aboard the Heart of Gold, the 7th edition of the Bologna Art First curated by Julia Draganovic, is on from the 27th January to 26 February 2012. Do you remember the early 80ies, the era of the cold war and the overwhelming sensation of constant universal threat?  It was Douglas Adams who taught us to relativize our situation by illustrating the end of the world with his Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Adams made us understand that we are not the centre of the universe.
Friedrich Nietzsche's theory of the eternal return seems to confirm itself again: At the beginning of the second decade of the third Millennium we feel once again close to an implosion, this time though, it is not caused by the nuclear armament, but be the financial market system. With "On Board of the Heart of Gold", a title borrowed from the spaceship on which Douglas Adams protagonist travels through the galaxy, Arte Fiera Art First, Italy's first art fair, invites to a trip that takes the visitor far from economic preoccupations. Walking through Bologna's city ancient centre, one discovers 10 artistic positions, serious or ironic, which are meant, at times, to provoke critical thinking, at times they just raise a smile. The goal of this heterogeneous and eclectic guide is not to lose sight of the crisis, but it should help to gain a healthy distance and to provoke unpredictable thoughts. A project of Arte Fiera Art First in collaboration with the Bologna City Council.
