"ON THE SPOT" curatorial project - Hall 22 Booth B2
The curatorial project On the Spot challenges several premises, investigating whether an exhibition containing works on display at an art fair can be conceptualized, selected, exhibited and inaugurated in only one day; and whether concepts like ‘spectator participation’ and ‘live experience’ can be put into practice at an art fair.
Conceived by independent curator and Associate Editor of the magazine ARTPULSE, Paco Barragán, the project explores the possibilities of ‘instant’, concept-based curating during an art fair. On each of the three days of Arte Fiera, a different curator will stage a one-day show using only works on exhibit at the fair. Each curator will walk through the fair, select works from the participating galleries and request their loan for a day. The impromptu exhibition will be held in a specially designated booth.
At the end of the one-day exhibition and before the fair closes for the evening, the curator will explain his concept to a public audience, taking questions and criticism in a free-flow dialogue.
All the works will be returned to the galleries on the following day when the next curator will put together another one-day exhibition. This novel exhibition format investigates the immediate experimental possibilities offered by works exhibited at an art fair.
As well as Paco Barragán, the two other curators will be Lara Pan, free-lance curator and art advisor, and Oliver Kielmayer, Director of the Kunsthalle Wintherthur.
The one-day projects will be exhibited at the curator’s place in hall 22 booth B2 at ArteFiera between the 27 and 29 January 2012.
